Research Engineer – Embedded Systems

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing and implementing and managing a quality management system (QMS) and processes/coordination with internal and external resources to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage SaMD products within the CE regulatory process
- Develop and implement quality assurance plans for SaMD products
- Oversee testing and validation of SaMD products

Masters Thesis Project
Position: Intern developing cuffless estimation of blood pressure software solutions using advanced machine learning techniques
Location: Biospectal office, Lausanne, Switzerland

According to the WHO, 1.3 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension, with 46% of these being unaware of their condition. The main objective of this work is to develop a non-invasive method to estimate blood pressure at home, reducing healthcare costs and empowering patients by increasing awareness and providing easy and cheap access to blood pressure monitoring. The eventual tool will be based on a wearable or smartphone-based sensor, recording photoplethysmography and/or electrocardiogram signals. These signals will be used to estimate systolic and diastolic blood pressure and machine learning approaches will be leveraged to optimize a variety of solutions for maximal performance. Extensive data from our clinical trials is readily available for this project, and additional data are available through open-access datasets. Through this project, the student will be exposed to vital signs acquisition procedures, signal processing pipelines, vast health data sets, and the latest machine learning techniques for model building.
Candidate Requirements
- Masters student with a background in computer science/data science, biomedical engineering, or related fields

- Prior programming experience and full proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB required
