Embedded Systems Engineer

Location: Switzerland

Your work will positively impact one third of the world’s population and have a direct impact on our future product. In this key position, you will drive the development of customised hardware that complements Biospectal’s software product offerings.

Our R&D team is growing, and we are looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer (m/f) to help us develop awesome products that users love! You will be responsible for the development and design of hardware components, conceptualization tools, algorithm implementation, internal and external communication, and resource management to ensure best-in-class execution of regulatory-compliant medical grade products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop systems for multimodal sensing applications.
  • Manage all phases of hardware development, including user and design requirements generation, detailed design development, design of verification procedures and device testing.
  • Contribute to the development of firmware and software for medical-grade sensing platforms.
  • Design, develop and test signal processing and machine learning algorithms to improve our blood pressure estimation modules.
  • Create detailed documentation for development & deployment processes.
  • Manage academic collaborations and mentor students.

Requirements & Skills

  • PhD in electronics/microsystems engineering/computer science or similar.
  • Strong understanding of hardware design and architecture, preferably for biosensing systems.
  • Extensive skills in writing of firmware, including design, testing, optimization, and validation procedures.
  • Experience with coding and basic understanding of statistical modelling/machine learning is required (Python)
  • Experience with signal processing and optical sensing is a major plus.

We are looking for an experience yet entrepreneurial sales and business development leader who is adept at transforming med tech innovation into compelling and valued, high value revenue generating, multichannel distribution strategy and implementation.

Your work can impact a third of the world’s population suffering from hypertension and will directly drive our growth. This is a key executive role to expand of Biospectal’s multi-channel commercial activity focusing on partnerships in health care delivery systems. You will tackle stimulating, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work at the intersection of Biospectal and its business partners and customers.

The ideal candidate has experience in Europe but also internationally in the US and APAC/EMEA.

This executive team member reports to the CEO and Co-Founder (USA/San Francisco Area-based). You will work closely with the CEO and leadership team and coordinate with the broader team to create commercial and business development strategies that are optimized for both short-term and long-term.

You should have experience and proven success in driving B2B and B2C partnerships MedTech and health innovation, with a documented understanding of new opportunities and challenges in bringing software products to market, in particular via telehealth, pharma, and insurance, and IoT/mobile solutions.  You will be highly adaptable and able to translate the clinical research , AI, and machine learning based software into a compelling commercial proposition to build sales and scale customers to tap an unprecedented global market opportunity. You will also be adept at evolving the revenue generating strategy and execution, as well as people, process, and tools to support them we grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop superior customer selling propositions across products and services based on current and future evolving business needs 
  • Develop and implement sales process, organization, tools and strategies for current and new customer and business partner segments across a range of players in the health delivery ecosystem

Software Development Manager

Our software team is growing, and we are looking for a Software Development Manager to join us and help lead the building of awesome products that users love! The Software Development Manager will be responsible for front end and back end software development processes, tools, intra- and extra-company communication and resource management to ensure top class execution of regulatory-compliant SaMD products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage dev process from start to finish (SW requirements, design, development, testing and deployment)
  • Create Software development & deployment processes SOPs for Biospectal’s QMS
  • Build and manage a team of internal and external SW/QA engineers. (Hire and train, ensure compliance)
  • Actively own and manage resolution of  technical deliverables, issues  and roadblocks with customer support and product management.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders (product managers, engineers, quality managers, consultants as relevant) to ensure OptiBP’s technical file meets all requirements and is delivered on time and on  budget.

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in Computer Science.

Quality Management Lead, Medical Devices

Our clinical affairs team is growing, and we need a Quality Management Lead, Medical Devices to help us to manage our regulatory quality activity. You will be responsible for developing and implementing and managing a quality management system (QMS) and processes/coordination with internal and external resources to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage SaMD products within the CE regulatory process
  • Develop and implement quality assurance plans for SaMD products
  • Oversee testing and validation of SaMD products
  • Lead the Software Change Board (cross-functional team)
  • Develop and implement the Feedback/Complaint Management process and tools
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues
  • Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)
  • Represent Biospectal to Notified Body and Legal Manufacturers

Student Intern: Masters Project or Internship, Spring 2024

Position: Intern developing cuffless estimation of blood pressure software solutions using advanced machine learning techniques

Location: Biospectal office, Lausanne, Switzerland

According to the WHO, 1.3 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension, with 46% of these being unaware of their condition. The main objective of this work is to develop a non-invasive method to estimate blood pressure at home, reducing healthcare costs and empowering patients by increasing awareness and providing easy and cheap access to blood pressure monitoring. The eventual tool will be based on a wearable or smartphone-based sensor, recording photoplethysmography and/or electrocardiogram signals. These signals will be used to estimate systolic and diastolic blood pressure and machine learning approaches will be leveraged to optimize a variety of solutions for maximal performance. Extensive data from our clinical trials is readily available for this project, and additional data are available through open-access datasets. Through this project, the student will be exposed to vital signs acquisition procedures, signal processing pipelines, vast health data sets, and the latest machine learning techniques for model building.

Candidate Requirements

  • Masters student with a background in computer science/data science, biomedical engineering, or related fields
  • Knowledge of machine learning and statistics required
  • Prior programming experience and full proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB required

The ideal candidate will have experience in regression and deep learning models.

You have:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in computer science or related field, strong expertise in machine learning or computational modeling.
